Today is the Feast of Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominicans, an Order of Preachers. As many of you know Michael Bovino recently joined the Diocese of Norwich and is heading off in another week or so to Mount Saint Mary Seminary to begin his pre-theology years of study. A good friend of his and also a UCONN graduate two years ago, today receives his Dominican habit as he recently began in first year of novitiate study and prayer with the Eastern Province of the Dominicans, located out in Ohio. Congratulations Jacob Ramos.
Today in Stamford Connecticut at the very beautiful Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, I had the distinct honor to concelebrate the Holy Mass with His Excellency, The Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano, Bishop of Bridgeport and about fifty other priests for the Mass of Profession for the Sisters of Life.
Though we are few in number at the Pontifical North American College, and our presence small in comparison with the goliath-sized fan base of such teams as Kentucky, Florida and Michigan, you wouldn’t have guessed it two nights ago when at 3:00AM Rome Time, we faithful (and at times, noisy) few—a priest from the Archdiocese of Hartford, a priest from Bridgeport, and a deacon from Norwich (yours truly)—gathered together in solidarity with the entire State of Connecticut
This past Monday, I was fortunate enough to pay a visit to my alma mater, the University of Connecticut, with my fellow seminarian Brian Maxwell. We visited St. Thomas Aquinas parish and the student center, and Fr. John Antonelle took us out to lunch. It was an opportunity to experience a little of the campus ministry going on at UConn, the largest university in our diocese.
